Pop Top Gifts

The most difficult people for me to finds gifts for are teachers. I don’t know them very personally, but I want to avoid the mug that says “#1 Teacher” that they will just add to the pile of 50 other mugs. While searching for ideas I came across an idea for tin can treats.
Who could resist a gift made for an adult who is a kid at heart?
I love this idea, and so did Joshua’s teachers and bus drivers! It is super easy. The hardest part is deciding what to put in the cans! I made these last year, but I’m going to make them again this year because I can put something else in them.
To start off, gather enough canned fruit with the pull tabs on the top. Make sure you do fruit because you don’t want your candy or other little gifts to smell like tomato sauce or green beans. You’re welcome. Use a can opener to open the bottom of the can, but don’t take it all the way off. It will make your life easier to leave it connected. Rinse and dry it well.
Since I needed to make 8 gifts, there was no way I was going to be able to get the family to eat that much pineapple. I froze it to use in smoothies later. Don’t freeze it like this, though. Freeze it in ice cube trays or something similar. There’s nothing like having to chop up frozen pineapple. Grab a few of your favorite treats fill the cans almost all the way full, leaving room for tissue paper. After you fill the cans you’re going to hot glue them shut. The tissue paper keeps the hot glue from getting to the candy.
Once you’ve glued the bottom back on it’s time to prettify it. Cut circles to cover the hot glue. Cut some festive paper the same height as the can and tape or glue around the can. You can take the label off or leave it on. It doesn’t really matter. I like to tie ribbon on the tab to make it easier to pull up.
Once finished I adapted the label from Our Best Bites to fit the cans I used. The only reason I used the shorter and wider cans was because they were cheaper. You might want to splurge a little and get the tall cans to avoid looking like you’re gifting cat food.

“The contents of this can are to be used purely for the treatment of stress due to teaching. When feeling such ailments, wait for recess, lock door, hide under desk, and consume immediately.”

If you search Our Best Bites they have printables for Mother’s Day and other holidays.
