Crispy Green Freeze-Dried Fruit Snacks

It’s no secret that I’m the mom of two busy littles. Said littles are always on the hunt for snacks, and Mommy would prefer snacks that aren’t loaded with sugar, preservatives, or artificial anything. Is that really too much to ask? I don’t think so. No amount of bribing, threatening, or ranch dressing will convince my children to snack on vegetables. We’ll revisit that topic in a few years while I try to at least get them to try a piece of corn or two at mealtimes.

A girl goes through three phases in the first part of her life:
She dreams of finding the perfect guy.
She dreams of eating without getting fat.
She dreams of having children who will eat anything. Period.

I’m sure I know of at least 47 ways to sneak healthy goodness into the yummy goodness my children consume on a daily basis, but let’s be real, I do not have the time nor the energy to be executing any or all of 47 techniques to a more healthy diet. I just don’t. I take shortcuts. Shortcuts allow more time to build LEGO villages, and I’m okay with that.

Crispy Greens and Fruitzio are freeze-dried fruit snacks that just happen to be a mom’s best friend. There are so many fruit options to choose from, and they taste amazing. I was actually shocked that they tasted so much like fresh fruit. I confess that my husband and I went through about 3 packs because we had to ‘try them out’. My poor children were lucky to get any at all.

Crispy Pineapple

The texture was very interesting. It tasted like fresh fruit, but it wasn’t soft. It was crunchy. I’ve never eaten crunchy pineapple before. Almost all of the fruit we tried were instant hits. Joshua ate some apricots and actually liked them. Olivia will eat any fruit I put in front of her and then steal Joshua’s when he’s not looking. The peaches, pears, and apples were yummy as well. The cantaloupe is going to take some getting used to. It tastes exactly the same as fresh cantaloupe, but it’s just not juicy which is a little strange.

Let’s imagine for a moment that all the freeze-dried fruit didn’t magically disappear almost as soon as it entered the house. I would have kept some in the car for hunger emergencies. I may have even kept a pack in my purse. A picture might have been taken of the fruit smoothie I made with the freeze-dried kiwi. There is a rumor that freeze-dried snacks make better movie companions than popcorn. I suppose we’ll never know.

One thing we do know for certain is that Crispy Greens can be consumed on a bad hair day. I’m sure Dora and Super Why would approve. I suggest the bananas for such an occasion. The bananas taste just like those my grandma used to dehydrate. We would eat those like candy growing up.

Now that I have a Whole Foods nearby I can pick some up if I don’t have time to place an online order. It’s nice to know that the market for healthy, natural snack foods is steadily increasing. My kids have food sensitivities and I want fuel their minds and bodies without upsetting their little tummies. The only way these snacks could be better is if I could get them delivered to my door. Oh wait….

Typical boxed snacks are so full of sugars. This looks like a great option!

I looooooove dried fruit! My grandmother would make dehydrated bananas, too. I tried giving them to my 5 year old once, and she hated them. :( Maybe I’ll have more luck with apricots and pineapple!
